If you love thrills, you must visit Carowinds. It is a huge park that sits right on the border of North and South Carolina.

You can actually stand in two states at the same time. This is a fun fact that many people find cool.

3. United States National Whitewater Center

This is a massive outdoor playground for us. You can go rafting on man made rapids.

It is a bit scary but also totally safe. I’ve been there and the water is very refreshing. You could also try zip lining through the trees.

They also have climbing walls for all skill levels. Do not stress if you have never climbed before. There are people to help you stay safe.

In the evenings, they often have live music. You can sit by the water and listen to bands play.

I think you will find it very relaxing. Plus, the food at the cafe is actually quite good.

4. Discovery Place Science

This is one of my favorite spots for learning. It is a science museum that is very hands on.

You can touch things and run experiments yourself. I feel like it makes science feel like a big adventure. It is located right in the middle of uptown.

There is an aquarium inside with many cool fish. You can also see a rainforest with real plants and birds.

Did you know they have an IMAX theater too? The screen is huge and wraps around you. It makes movies feel very real.

I recommend this place if you have kids with you. They will love the play areas and the labs.

If you want a break from the city, go to Freedom Park. It is a very large park with a big pond in the middle. 

I think it is the perfect spot for a picnic. You could bring some sandwiches and sit on the grass. Anyway, it is totally free to enter.

There are many playgrounds for children to enjoy. Plus, there are paths for jogging or skating.

I suggest you walk the trail that connects to the greenway. It is a long path that goes through many neighborhoods. You will see a lot of trees.

In the fall, the leaves change colors and look beautiful. Personally, I think that is the best time to visit.

6. The Mint Museum

Charlotte has a great art scene and this is the proof. The Mint Museum has two locations in the city. One is in uptown and the other is in Randolph.

They both have amazing collections of craft and design. I think the buildings are art themselves.

You can see pottery, jewelry, and paintings from long ago. I believe it is important to see how people made things by hand. 

I suggest you start at the uptown location first. It is very easy to get to and has a lot of space.

7. Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden

This garden is just a short drive from the city. It is a massive space filled with flowers and fountains.

I think it is one of the most beautiful places in the area. You can walk through different themed gardens. It feels like a dream world.

They have a big glass house for tropical plants. It stays warm inside even in the winter. You can see orchids and other exotic flowers.

8. 7th Street Public Market

Are you hungry yet? If so, you should go to this market.

It is an indoor space with many local food stalls. You can find pizza, sushi, coffee, and sweets. I feel like it is the best place to try local flavors.

I recommend getting a grilled cheese sandwich here. It is famous and tastes really good.

You can sit at the big tables and eat with others. It is a great way to meet people from Charlotte.

We usually find the vendors to be very friendly. They love to talk about their food and where it comes from. It is a nice touch.

The market is right next to the light rail station. So, it is very easy to visit without a car.

9. Charlotte Motor Speedway

This is another great spot for racing fans. It is a huge track where big NASCAR races happen.

Even if there is no race, you can take a tour. You can actually ride in a van around the track. It is very steep and feels quite fast.

I think the tour is worth the money. You get to see the media center and the winner’s circle. I believe it gives you a behind the scenes look at racing.

They also have a drag racing track nearby. Sometimes you can see cars racing in a straight line at high speeds. It is a bit loud, so be prepared for that. 

You might want to buy a hat or a shirt to remember your trip. Anyway, it is a big part of the local culture.

10. Billy Graham Library

This place is a bit different but very peaceful.

It is a library and museum dedicated to the life of Billy Graham. The building looks like a big dairy barn. I think it is very beautiful and sits on a lot of green land.

You can take a tour through his life story. It uses photos, videos, and music to tell the tale.

I feel like it is a very moving experience for many people. To be honest, you do not have to be religious to enjoy the history here.

 It is a very quiet spot away from the city noise. Personally, I found the cafe to be very cozy too. They serve good snacks.

It is free to visit, which is a big plus. I suggest you check the hours before you go.

How to get around the city

Actually, getting around Charlotte is pretty simple once you know the layout. I think you will find that the city is a bit spread out.

I suggest using the LYNX Blue Line light rail if you are staying near Uptown or South End. It is very clean and fast, plus it saves you from stressing over parking.

If you want to see nature spots or big tracks, you really might want to rent a car. Personally, I feel like driving here is quite easy.

Anyway, it gives you the freedom to go anywhere.

For shorter trips, you could try an e-scooter or e-bike. Trust me, it is a fun way to explore.
