You can sit by the water and watch the boats. It is a very peaceful way to begin your day.
After breakfast, we should head to the Golden Gate Bridge. Did you know it is not actually red? The color is called International Orange.
It looks amazing when the sun comes up. You should try to get there early to avoid the crowds.
You can walk across the bridge if you want. It is a bit windy up there. Make sure to wear a jacket. Even on sunny days, the wind can be cold.

Next, let’s head to the Palace of Fine Arts. It looks like an old Roman ruin. It is a very pretty spot for photos.
You will see many people taking wedding pictures there. It is just that beautiful. Honestly, it is one of my favorite spots.
After that, we can walk to the Presidio. This used to be an army base. Now it is a huge park with lots of trees. You can find the Yoda fountain at the Lucasfilm office.
If you have time, visit Baker Beach. You can see the bridge from the sand. The waves are quite strong here. I do not recommend swimming in the ocean.

Lunch: Tasty Treats in North Beach
By now, you are probably getting hungry. I suggest heading to North Beach. This is the Little Italy of San Francisco. You will smell garlic and fresh bread everywhere.
You could try a slice of pizza or a big bowl of pasta. Tony’s Pizza Napoletana is a famous spot. The lines can be long, so be ready.
Another choice is Molinari Delicatessen. They make the best sandwiches in the city, in my opinion.
After lunch, walk over to Washington Square Park. It is a very local vibe. You might see people doing Tai Chi. It is a great place to rest your legs for a bit.

Afternoon: Steep Hills and Sea Lions
Now we should go to Lombard Street. People call it the crookedest street in the world. It has eight sharp turns in one block. It is full of pretty flowers. You can walk down the stairs on the side of the road.
From there, it is a short walk to Fisherman’s Wharf. Many people find it a bit touristy. But you have to see the sea lions at Pier 39. They are very loud and funny.

Let’s head over to Chinatown next. The San Francisco Chinatown is the oldest one in North America. Enter through the Dragon Gate on Bush Street.
You will feel like you are in a different world. The colors and smells are amazing.
I recommend visiting the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory. It is tucked away in a small alley.
You can see them making cookies by hand. They might even give you a warm sample. It is a sweet treat that you will love.
Take some time to look at the shops. The architecture is really cool too. Look up at the balconies and the red lanterns. It is a great place to get lost for an hour.

As the day ends, we need a good view. Twin Peaks is a popular choice. You can see the whole city from the top. It can get very foggy though.
If you want a different view, try the Painted Ladies. These are famous Victorian houses at Alamo Square. You might know them from the show Full House.
Another option is Coit Tower. It sits on top of Telegraph Hill. You can see 360 degree views of the bay. There are beautiful murals inside the base. Just be ready to walk up some stairs to get there.
Dinner: A Mix of Flavors
For dinner, you have so many choices. If you want Mexican food, go to the Mission District. This neighborhood is famous for the Mission Burrito.
They are huge and filled with rice, beans, and meat. Taqueria La Cumbre is a classic spot.
If you want something fancy, stay near Union Square. There are many high end restaurants there. You can find food from every part of the world.
Personally, I love the seafood here. Dungeness crab is a local favorite when it is in season.
Make sure to try some sourdough bread with your meal. San Francisco is famous for it. The air here makes the bread taste unique. It is a bit sour and very chewy. I think you will really enjoy it.
Evening: Fun and Lights
After dinner, you might want a drink or a dessert. Ghirardelli Square is great for chocolate lovers. You can get a huge ice cream sundae. It is a bit expensive but worth it for a treat.
If you like music, check out a jazz club. The city has a rich history of music. You can find small bars with live bands. It is a nice way to end your night.
Take one last look at the Bay Bridge. At night, it has a light show. Thousands of white lights dance on the cables.
It is very pretty to watch from the Embarcadero. It is the perfect end to a long day.

Well, let’s be real, you cannot see 100% of the city in just 24 hours.
San Francisco has too many hidden corners for that. But, You can totally cover the most famous places in one day.
You might not see every single street, but you will see the big icons. You get to taste the best food and see the best views.
By the end of the day, you will feel like you really know the city. Plus, it gives you a great reason to come back again.

Honestly, it depends on your style. You can see the city on a budget or spend a bit more. For a solid day, I’d recommend planning for about $80 to $120 per person.

Food and Drink ($40 – $60)
Honestly, the food here is amazing. I suggest you grab a coffee and a pastry for breakfast. That is usually about $10.
For lunch, you could try a big Mission burrito for $15. It is very filling.
Dinner in Chinatown or North Beach is about $25. Plus, keep $5 for a small snack. A fresh fortune cookie or sourdough bread is a total treat.
Transportation ($5 – $20)
